Hedge Fund Industry Changes in 2009
Embedded below is a video on how hedge fund investors are making more demands upon managers during the crisis. While some of what is said does not make a lot of sense the truth is that hedge fund managers are having to negotiate harder not just to win new clients but to keep current assets within their portfolios. According to Bloomberg, "hedge fund managers can no longer dictate terms of investments," to some degree they are right. While the example within this video of Calper's demands is on the extreme end many pension funds and institutional investors are looking for more ways to more quickly adjust and transparently manage their alternative investments. It will be 12-18 months before we see how this will affect institutional due diligence processes and fee levels.
