Commodity Futures Trading Commission CFTC
Commodity Futures Trading Commission CFTC. A Federal agency charged and empowered under the Commodity Exchange Act of 1974 with regulation of futures trading in all commodities. Previously, futures trading had been regulated by the Commodity Exchange Authority of the US Department of Agriculture.
The CFTC is composed of five commissioners, one of whom is designated as chairman, all appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, and is independent of all cabinet departments.
