Short Term Investment Fund. STIFs typically involve investments in instruments designed to "mature" in one year or less, such as 90-day government Treasury Bills, high quality short-term notes and commercial paper issued by major financial institutions and blue chip companies. Some STIFs may be actively managed to take advantage of fluctuations in interest rates.
