Resource #1: Ian Wace is a co-founder of Marshall Wace Asset Management, one of Europe's leading hedge fund institutions with circa $15 billion under management. Ian was formerly Global Head of Equity and Derivative Trading at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, Prior to joining Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in 1995, he worked for eleven years at SG Warburg & Co Ltd., where he became, at the age of twenty-five, the youngest ever Director. In 1988, he was appointed Head of European Equity Sales and, in 1993, Head of Proprietary Trading and in 1994 Head of International Trading.
The Sunday Times Rich lists him as Britain's 263rd richest individual and he is one of the founders of Absolute Return for Kids charity. Every year the Ark gala dinner brings the world of serious A-list celebrity and hedge fund money together - this year it raised a record £26m. His brother Charles Wace is CEO of leading regional Television production company Twofour Group source

Resource #2: Marshall Wace is among the largest hedge funds in the City of London with an estimated $15 billion under management (FT). The organisation is controlled by Paul Marshall (a prominent Liberal Democrats supporter) and Ian Wace, 43. The pair were estimated to be worth £175 million (€253m, $322m) in the Sunday Times Rich List 2006. The fund is estimated to be among the ten biggest in Europe and operates from offices close to the Strand. The organisation has been estimated by The Times to currently be responsible for 3-4 per cent of the total equities traded in London. Much of the firm's success is believed to stem from a complex computer system called TOPS (Trade Optimised Portfolio System) which uses algorithms to rank advice offered by salesmen and analysts. source

Resource #3: Wace, 45, and Paul Marshall (qv) set up Marshall Wace Asset Management, a £600m London hedge fund. It now has £7.4 billion under management after adding a fresh £1.5 billion fund in March. Over the years its directors have earned £95m and Wace’s share of the business is £250m, raising him to £280m after tax and spending. source
