TOPIX Stock Index
TOPIX Stock Index Holdings
A capitalization-weighted index consisting of all stocks listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE). It is calculated on a total return basis with dividends reinvested. TOPIX is computed and published every 60 seconds via TSE's Market Information System.
Issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange are divided into two sections - the First and the Second. The First Section is the market place for stocks of larger companies, while the Second Section is for those of smaller and newly listed companies. At the end of each business year, the TSE reviews all domestic stocks to determine whether they meet the criteria for the First or Second section. Approximately 1,500 companies are listed on the First Section and over 500 companies on the Second.
Currency: Japanese yen
