S&P/ASX Indexes | 1 Page Guide
Standard and Poor's maintains a series of indexes of shares listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). The S&P/ASX indexes include:
S&P/ASX 100 Index
A large capitalization equity index composed of 100 stocks selected by the S&P Australian Index Committee. It includes large-cap and mid-cap stocks evaluated for liquidity and size. The index represents approximately 85% of the total market capitalization of the Australian share market.
S&P/ASX 200 Index
A mid-large capitalization equity index composed of the S&P/ASX 100 plus an additional 100 stocks selected by the S&P Australian Index Committee. The S&P/ASX 200 represents approximately 90% of the total market capitalization of the Australian market.
S&P/ASX 300 Index
A broad capitalization equity index composed of the S&P/ASX 200 plus an additional 100 small-cap companies . Companies removed from the index are replaced when a suitable candidate is available or at the quarterly review. The index represents approximately 91% of the Australian share market.
All Ordinaries Index
Represents the 500 largest companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. Market capitalization is the only eligibility requirement. Except for foreign domiciled companies, liquidity is not considered. The index covers approximately 99% of the Australian share market.
