Year to Date Market Returns or Performance

Year to Date. In a financial or statistical report, the cumulative value of a quantity, aggregated from the first day of the current calendar or fiscal year through the effective date listed on the report. Organizations typically use YTD numbers as interim measures of their activity or progress. For example, a company might issue an income statement for the month of August that includes a YTD total of its earnings for the period from January 1through August 31, assuming the company's fiscal year is the same as the calendar year.
