Venture Capital Financing| Definition
Money invested in a start-up business that is perceived to have excellent growth prospects but does not yet have access to capital markets. Since this type of direct investment is subject to more than a normal degree of risk, a venture capitalist will often place special requirements on the start-up and assume a significant ownership position.
