FTSE United Kingdom Indexes | Definition

To measure the performance of the UK stock market, FTSE maintains the following capitalization-weighted indexes, composed of companies traded on the London Stock Exchange.

Currency: Pounds sterling

FTSE All-Share

Representing 98-99% of the UK market capitalization, FTSE All-Share is the aggregation of the FTSE 100, FTSE 250 and FTSE Small Cap Indices.

FTSE 100

The 100 most highly capitalized UK companies, representing approximately 80% of the UK market. The FTSE 100 Index is used extensively as a measure of UK financial markets and a basis for UK investment products, such as derivatives and exchange-traded funds.

FTSE 250

Consists of mid-capitalized companies, not covered by the FTSE 100. The FTSE 250 represents approximately 18% of UK market capitalization.

FTSE 350

Aggregate index composed of the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 indexes.

FTSE Small Cap

Consists of companies with the smallest capitalization and represents approximately 2% of the UK market capitalization.

FTSE UK Style

Measures the performance of value and growth companies within the FTSE 350 Index.

FTSE TMT

Measures the performance of UK companies in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sectors as defined by the FTSE Global Classification System.
