Fixed Income Investments | Definition

(1) Security that pays a fixed rate of return. A government, municipal or corporate bond that pays a fixed rate of interest until the bond matures. Or a preferred stock that pays a fixed dividend. Such investments are also called fixed income instruments.

(2) An investment that is fundamentally a loan.

(3) An asset class considered to be the opposite of equities.
