Company Stock Share | Definition

Types of securities representing ownership in a corporation. A contract between the issuing corporation and the stockholder which gives the latter an interest in the management of the corporation, the right to participate in profits and, if the corporation is dissolved, a claim upon assets remaining when all debts have been paid. According to the New York Stock Exchange, when you own a share of stock, you own a share of the business.
